Oh dear, I’m so spoiled by shooting for a weekly magazine. I mean, come on, weekly ego boosts! I’m not sure why, but I am so confused on how to feel about having a few freelance projects that are going on while I’m working. It’s too great for someone like me.

Happy new year, friends!!

I just spent 9 days back home in Texas for Christmas and New Years Day. And it was wonderful! Possibly one of my favorite visits back home (well, I’ve only been going back once a year, at most, since I left for college.. and this time I felt like it was going to be as good as it gets. Good times it was!). This red house is a model of my home that I made in ceramics class a couple years ago for my dad because I wanted him to keep it in his office as a reminder of how grateful I was to have been raised in a beautiful home that he worked so hard to build. Also, I thought I was 5 years old when I made it.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to share more photos since the festivities in the middle of December! This train set above is my dad’s present from both me and Christine. And I’m looking forward to the day I take my first peek at photos from our September Korea trip.. if I ever stop being lazy. Anywho, today was my first day back at work, and I woke up feeling AWFUL. I took all kinds of medicine today (it can’t be good..) since people seem to think medicine does the trick for having a cold. We’ll see.

The holidays

Yay! It’s finally feeling like Christmas.. especially during the weekends! This weekend was absolutely perfect! That’s another post.. but last weekend was also great~ Chelsea & I shopped around the Real Simple pop-up shop as VIP guests (what up!), then found our way uptown to shop at the new Ladurée in the UES. I went to the original one in Paris this summer, and this was just as darling! Anyway, on to the photos..

Sprinkles cupcakes was having a cupcake decorating demo, and while we didn’t partake, Chelzo and I did enjoy a couple of their famous cupcakes- and they really ARE delicious! I had the red velvet and she had the chocolate. (and I just want to plug in that Georgetown Cupcake sent cupcakes to the office this week, and their cupcakes are also DELICIOUS! I’m starting to think the only bad cupcakes out there are from Magnolia and a couple others.. anyway!)

And later we ran into Santas, some happy, some angry, some drunk..

and after brisk walking, we came upon it..

OH, and the line was so long.. at least 3x the store length since the line had folded and snaked through the tiny shop. But I think it was worth the wait! Chelsea pointed out the entertaining Muzak playing. and then we had lunch at Chelsea Market!

SO GOOD!!!

and then I went home and had to photograph my beautiful macarons..

Ahh, just another week until Christmas and I go back home in Texas! (hopefully I’ll squeeze in another post) But until then.. cheers!

Branded

A couple of weeks ago, I shot for Branded Saloon in Brooklyn as a favor for my colleague’s friend, who owns the bar. (Well, a friend of a friend is a friend, que no!) It was pretty sweet~ I spent a few hours there and got shots inside and out, and got to sample meals, desserts, and drinks! That’s one of the best perks/ forms of payment, really. So I just did shots for the bar for their own press, but since I’m not sure when they’re running or where, and I feel safe posting them in my blog, I wanted to share a few shots!

Sigh, I love food photography! Getting asked to shoot was just such a major ego boost!

Benetton

United Colors of Benetton ads have always struck me since I was little. Probably one of the few brands which really stuck with me for its advertising in particular at a young age. This new ad campaign was in this week’s New York magazine. I want to believe that brands (like this and Dove) truly believe in their ad messages, and they don’t do it just because it’s the progress they know consumers want to see and are willing to buy into.

Well, this is a bigger step than I imagined a brand would take.

and I have more pages.. YAY. They’re from 3, 2, and 1 week ago. I should study prop/drink styling, so I can keep this up! So far it’s been 5 consecutive months of shooting… and I am grateful every time I am asked to do it again! esp since I am accompanying such well-written articles. You’d think I’d be useful at getting you a drink.

New work

I’m so excited to share my new site with you! I decided to make a tumblr (since I’m taking way too long to learn how to make an actual site/ I love tumblr and its format).. and ta da! It’s carolineyiworks.tumblr.com and I’ll be updating my work as I work..

and our December issue is coming out soon, and I’m so excited to share those pages too! I’m just trying to somehow separate myself from work, even though this blog has some of my photos from my freelance work. And I don’t know how to piece my portfolio together, so I have this blog you’re reading, and this new work tumblr, and my personal tumblr. Anyway~ Thank you for your interest in my life!! I’m always happy to share if I can (:
